Lycette Nelson, J.D.


Lycette Nelson is the Litigation Director of the Mental Disability Advocacy Center (MDAC), based in Budapest Hungary. She oversees MDAC’s docket of cases in domestic courts in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Bulgaria and Russia, and before the European Court of Human Rights and UN Treaty Bodies.

Prior to joining MDAC in 2010, Lycette worked as an Associate Attorney at the New York Mental Hygiene Legal Service, where she represented clients in civil commitment, forced treatment, mandated outpatient treatment and guardianship proceedings; and as an Interim Supervising Attorney and Senior Staff Attorney on the Adult Home Advocacy Project at MFY Legal Services, Inc. in New York City. She received her Juris Doctorate from the University of Cincinnati College of Law, where she was a fellow in the Urban Morgan Institute for Human Rights and an editor on the Human Rights Quarterly. Lycette also holds a doctorate in comparative literature from State University of New York at Buffalo. Prior to pursuing her law degree, Lycette was the Executive Director of Stonewall Cincinnati Human Rights Organization, a grass-roots anti-discrimination organization advocating for the rights of gay, lesbian, bisexual and trans-gendered people.
