Mayer Shevin has worked at various times as a professor of special education, a psychologist at a large state institution, and a teacher in the areas of positive approaches to behavior change, advocacy, and communication development. He directed the "Home-made Futures Project," developing person-centered planning resources in North Dakota. He is an associate of the Facilitated Communication Institute at Syracuse University, where he edits their newsletter, the Facilitated Communication Digest. In his private practice as a trainer and consultant he supports individuals seeking to progress toward their personal goals despite challenging behaviors and communication impairments, their families, and the agencies that support these individuals.
