Irit Shimrat describes herself as an escaped lunatic who has survived various psychiatric diagnoses, many hospitalizations and an equal number of incidents of forced psychiatric treatment. She is the author of Call Me Crazy: Stories from the Mad Movement (Vancouver: Press Gang Publishers, 1997) and of two CBC Ideas radio shows criticizing psychiatry (1991 and 1992). In 1990 she co-founded the Ontario Psychiatric Survivors’ Alliance. She is currently working on several writing projects.
