Lisa F. Daniels, Reading Memorial High School, Reading, Massachusetts
This workshop will begin with a short documentary entitled "Breaking the Chains: The Movement for Reform in the Mental Health System." This video was created in an attempt to raise awareness about the many injustices faced by c/s/x, and also as a response to the reaction of National History Day judges last year (who said that the Americans with Disabilities Act is not important enough to be called a "frontier in history"). Following the video presentation, Lisa will discuss the process of making the documentary. The workshop will conclude with a discussion about possibilities for consciousness-raising among high-schoolers and younger children.
