Misty Dion

As the Chief Executive Officer of the Roads to Freedom Center for Independent Living of North Central PA, Misty Dion works hard to pave the paths of independence for people with disabilities everywhere. Misty began working at the CIL in February 2005 as a temporary Intake and Referral Coordinator. Over the years, Misty has advanced through ranks from an Assistive Technology and Life Skills Coordinator, to Case Manager and most recently, Director of Programs and Services. In 2015, Dion was hired as the Agency’s CEO to lead our team in the fight for disability rights and to promote the principles of the Independent Living Philosophy of Consumer Control, Community Integration, and Dignity of Risk.

Misty earned her first Associate Degree in Human Services from Alfred State College of Technology in Alfred, NY. After moving to Pennsylvania, she continued her education in the Human Service Field and earned an additional Associates Degree and later her Bachelor’s Degree from Pennsylvania College of Technology, an affiliate of Penn State University. After graduating Summa Cum Laude with a 4.0 she focused her energy on advancing the rights of the disability community on national, state, and local levels.

Misty holds membership in the National Organization of Human Service Professionals, the National Organization for Professional Woman, and is currently in the process of applying as a Board Member of the Association of Programs for Rural Independent Living. She is actively involved with the Mid Atlantic ADA Center as a member of the Leadership Network and a member of the Center’s Advisory Board. In this capacity, she provides public education and technical assistance on a broad spectrum of topics relating to the American’s with Disability Act. In addition, Misty Dion is on the board of the State Independent Living Council and President of the Pennsylvania Council on Independent Living. She is also a member of National ADAPT, PA ADAPT, and a founding member of North Central PA ADAPT. On a local level, Misty is very involved in her community )and sits on the Board of Directors for Lycoming County Health Improvement Coalition and has served as chair of the OVR’s Committee on Employment for People with Disabilities.

Misty is a 2016 Williamsport/Lycoming County’s Chamber of Commerce Leadership Lycoming graduate and demonstrates her leadership skills under a Servant Leadership philosophy. She is a key resource for the disability and human service community and is also skilled in grant writing, fundraising, marketing, programming, and community development. Overall, Misty is a great attribute to any human service-related issue and is a highly motivated woman with a strong desire for equal rights. Misty utilizes her knowledge, skills, and experience to enhance the quality and choice of services for people with disabilities. On a personal side, Misty is a resident of Watsontown, PA with her husband and 3 children. In her spare time, she enjoys playing and coaching softball. Coupled with her experience and passion to serve people with disabilities, she is honored to be called a Disability Activist.
